The East Coast Xterra Challenge
July 12, 13 & 14, 2002

Paragon Adventure Park
Hazelton, PA

Throughout the 3 day weekend we had a total of 42 trucks attend.  We also recruited 2 guides, both in Jeeps, from the PaWheelers, the rest of the guides were MAXC members.  We started out Friday morning with approximately 30 trucks splitting up into 4 groups, 2 beginner level groups, 1 moderate group and one hardcore group.  The photo to the left shows trucks lining up in their respective groups Friday morning before heading to the trails.

We shared the park all weekend with the Land Cruiser Coal Mine Classic group.  They had close to 150 trucks and we were fortunate to get ahead of them to sign in Friday morning.  On Saturday there was also a Jeep group that was pretty large.  Paragon's people estimated the total number of trucks in the park to be over 300 on Saturday.  Amazingly enough the groups I, Swampwrecker, lead on Friday and Saturday didn't get behind anyone else on the trails.  Pictured to the right is Pikachu showing how his 36" swampers make easy work of this obstacle.

On Saturday we had just under 40 trucks show up.  This time we ran 5 groups, 2 beginners, 2 moderates and 1 hardcore group.  The hardcore group had 3 members tear open tires, all on the same trail on Saturday.  Other than a snapped winch cable, these were the only casualties of the weekend!

I lead a moderate group of 4 trucks on Saturday.  We blew through several trails before stopping for lunch (small groups are great).  GoliathTheX had trouble starting his truck after lunch.  We got it running with a jump start and decided to jump out of the park to get a new battery just to be on the safe side.  About an hour later we were back in the park and tackled a few more trails before heading out.

Saturday evening we had a small feast.  The campground owners were nice enough to set up the portable pavilion for us, while the ECXC staff provided food and beverage.  With 10 3' hoagies, 8 cases of soda, 6 cases of beer and enough chips and dip, fruit and veggies to feed a small country, there was plenty of food for the rest of the weekend.

Sunday had approximately 35 truck in 4 groups, 2 beginners, 1 moderate and 1 hardcore.  Unfortunately I had to leave Saturday evening and didn't get to experience Sunday unfold.  I heard the hardcore group had some fun getting out of Rabbit Run, be sure to come out to ECXC 2003 and hear all about it around the camp fires!
